The goal of SurfHaiti is to create long-term economic opportunity through the establishment of Haiti as a sustainable surf tourism destination. Haiti has warm water, beautiful beaches, and plentiful uncrowded waves — all just a short flight from the USA. Haiti is well positioned to capitalize on the $7 billion per year American surf industry.
The establishment of a country like Haiti as a surf tourism destination is not at all unprecedented. Seeing the economic potential the multibillion dollar global industry offers, countries as unlikely to embrace surfing as Liberia, China and Bangladesh have all established government entities to promote the sport.
Although SurfHaiti does not currently have a full time staff in Haiti, our guest house, frequented by traveling surfers from Haiti and all over the world, is available at a very reasonable rate. We also have boards available to rent and plenty of local kids to surf with. Although we recommend bringing your own boards and leaving them with the kids! As there is nowhere to buy a surfboard or have one repaired in Haiti.
